Our Happy Place Book Club Pick for June is The Names by Florence Knapp. I think I heard about this book over a year ago because there’s been so much hype around it. It’s such a clever idea. It’s about a lady called Cora who has a nine-year-old daughter, and a newborn baby, and one day she sets off to register the name of this new baby boy. And then the story splits into three, and you’ve got three different name choices for this baby, all for very different reasons, and all with very different outcomes due to the name chosen and the circumstances around that.
It’s truly fascinating, and it get’s you thinking a lot about your own name and your identity around that, and how it may have informed certain things in your life. It’s so incredibly clever and I think you’re all going to love it.
